MACGUBB: For Macgibb, 'son of Gibb.' compare Macgibbon. Sir Thomas M'Gub (a cleric) who received payment for custody of the king's provisions in Linlithgow, 1464 (ER., VII, p. 288) is probably Sir Thomas M'Gub or M'Gube recorded as priest in Glasgow, 1472 and 1477 (Sc. Ant., XVII, p. 119; REG., p. 436). Dr. Trotter (Galloway gossip: Kirkcudbrightshire, p. 2) says it has been changed to Gibson, for 'gentility.
