MACILHAUCH, Macilhauch: From Eochaidh (Macbain, p. 64). Hugh Makgilhauche was burgess of Drumfreese, 1425, and John M'Gilhauche or Magilhauch, rector of Kirkandris in Portoun, 1426 (RMS., II). As John de Makgilhauth or Maucilhaue he appears in 1434 as provost of Lincluden (Pap. Lett., VIII, p. 493,630). Finlay Makgilhauche, bailie of Drumfries, 1434, appears again in 1454 as McYlhauch (ER., IV, p. 630, V, p. 632), and John McIlhauch was a notary public in diocese of Glasgow, 1453 (Edgar, p. 225,226). Thomas Magilhauche or M'Yllauch who appears as rector of Tynwald, 1463 (RMS., II, 765,815), may be Thomas McYlhauche, vicar of Gerwane (Girvan) in 1490 (Crossraguel, I, p. 49). Johnne McGilhauche was gude brother to Johnne Campbell of Lundy, 1540 (RSS., II, 3660), John McKilhauche in Wigtoun was cited to appear before the Privy Council, 1562 (RPC., I, p. 214) and John M'llheuch was burgess of Wigtown, 1700 (Wigtown).
