From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

MACINESKER: Gaelic Mac an iasgair, 'son of the fisher.' A common name in the Black Book of Taymouth, and found in Braemar in the seventeenth century as Mac Innesker. One Mc Neskar received payment for 'xv kne hedis' for the king's 'rowbarge' in 1494 (ALHT., I, p. 240). Christiane Neinfinlay Vikeanesker (i.e. Christian the daughter of Finlay son of John the fisher) gave to Duncan Campbell of Glenerquhay and his heir a half of all the gear pertaining to her at her death in 1585 (BBT., p. 233). Niall Mclnneskar witnessed the sale of the six shilling and eightpence land of Torramore in 1586 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 75). Gillow Cam or Gillinewcam Mclnyeskar in Lochgoilshead was a follower of Neill Campbell of Drumsynnie in 1602 (RPC., VI p 484,507). Gromich McIneskair in Clenlochie and Patrik McNesker in Daldravag were prosecuted in 1618 for illegal carrying of arms (ibid., XI, p. 415,486). Archibald M'Kinneskar in Lochgoilhead, 1619 (Sosines, II, 82). Duncane M'Kinyesker in Kynaldie and Archibald M'lnyesker in Auchlyne appear in the Glenurchy muster-rolls of 1638 (BBT., p. 402), and Alexander M'lnisker appears in the parish of Dumbennan in 1716 (SCM., IV, p. 171). The name was rendered Fisher as early as 1509 (ADC., 21 July). Mclnzeskar 1633. Now known only as Fishee, which see.
