MACINLEICH: 'son of the doctor' (G. leigh). John M'Inleich, a descendant of one of the Heaton doctors who had settled in the Aird, "who kept Lord Lovat's flocks, got into trouble by helping himself to his master's muttons, and was saved from punishment by his wit and archery" (Wardlaw, intro., p. xxxviii). Angus Mclnleich was witness in 1547 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 139). Dugall M'Donachie Vclnleich (Mac an lighiche) of Darrenaneranach, 1622 (Sasines, 130). Guarie Mclnleich was charged in 1686 with intercommuning with rebels (RPC., 3. ser. XII, p. 234). Archibald M'Inlaich is in record in Dunemuick in Glassrie, 1694, and another Archibald M'lnlich in Airluge in Knapdale is in record, 1085 (Argyll Inv.). John M'lnlitch is in Craigintervebeg, Ardskomish, 1692.
