MACINTAYLOR: Gaelic Mac an tailleir, 'son of the tailor.' The English word 'tailor' was early borrowed into Gaelic as taillear. Alexander McKyntalyhur and John Mckyntalyhur were put to the horn in 1392 for their part in the raid of Angus and murder of Sir Walter Ogilvy the sheriff in the same year (APS., I, p. 579). Hugh Makintalyour, a witness, 1495 (Cawdor, p. 84). John Makyntailzour had grant of half the lands of Langilwenach, Bute, 1506 (RMS., II, 2987), and the name is also found in Bute as M'lntylor in 1707. John Makintailzour had a respite for his part in fire-raising in Arrouchquhir (Arrochar), 1526 (RSS., I, 3640). James Mclntailyeourand Janet Mclntailyeour, his sister, were tenants of Balnacochant, 1539 (ER., XVII, p. 658). Gillecrist M'Yntalluour witnessed a bond of manrent in Glenurquhay, 1559 (BBT., p. 203), and several Mclntailyeours were fined in 1613 for reset of members of the outlawed Clan Gregor (RPC., XIV). The Fine Rook of the Macgregors gives their habitat in 1613 as entirely in Perthshire-at Glenbrerochan (Cluny), Ardache (Menteith), Tullybannocher (near Comrie), Glenlyon, etc. Neel M'lntayleor in Gortenbouie was denounced rebel, 1675 (HP., I), and Archibald M'Intyller and John M'lntvllor in Barnakill appear in 1672 (ibid., II, p, 207,217). Gillecrist Talzyr (without 'Mac') is author of a poem in the Book of the Dean of Lismore, and Gillepatrick Tailzeour was sergeant of Dornoch, 1552 (OPS., II, p. 637). Mceantailyeour 1627, Mcintalyeor 1599, M'lntalyeour 1638; McCewntailor, McKintaylzeor. The name is now Englished Taylor.
