The modern Welsh is tywysog, 'prince.' The Perthshire Mackintoshes have no connection with those of Inverness beyond the name. Both Mackintoshes are descended from different toschachs-those of Glentilt, who afterwards settled at Dalmunzie in Glenshee, are descended from Ewen (Eugenius or Hugh), son of 'Good John of Islay,' to whom a charter of the thanage was granted by Robert the Steward and lord of Atholl, afterwards Robert 11, about 1345-47 (Skene, CS,, III, p. 272). In 1382 the king issued a mandate to the lord of Badenoch to call Farchard Mctoschy to his presence and to exact from him security that Adam, bishop of Aberdeen and his men on the bishop's lands of Brass (Birse) shall be free from persecution and trouble by Mctoschy and his adherents (APS., XII, p. 18; REA., I, p. 136).
