MACJOCK: A Highland border name from Lowland Scots 'Jock,' i.e. John. M'Yocks were a sept famous in Glenshee in the seventeenth century (Macbain). William Mac Jokke in Murthlac, 1550 (Illus., II, p. 262). Alexander Makiok, servitor to Colin M'Kenzie of Kintail, 1575 (RMS., IV, 2465). Robert McJock in Straloche fined for reset of Clan Gregor, 1613 (RPC., XIV, p. 636). Jon roy McJock, Rorie McJock, and William McJock were charged with being 'engagers' on the royalist side from the parish of Urray in 1649 (IDR., p. 368), and Archibald M'Jock appears in Ballemor in 1672 (HP., II, p. 210). Buchanan (p. 92) claims the Macjocks as a sept of Macfarlane. They have now become Macdonalds.
