MACJOKKIE: A Highland border name from Lowland Scots 'Jockie,' diminutive of Jock, i.e. John. John Grant, sone to Petre Grant alias McJokkie in Tulliche was fined in 1613 for reset of outlawed members of Clan Gregor (RPC., XIV, p. 631), and James McEan McJaclde in Dalcharne is in record in 1615 (Grant, III, p. 315). Patrik McJolde is in record in Wester Tulloche in 1619 (RPC., XI, p. 565), John McPatrick VcYockye in Culloch Tulloch) and Duncane McPatrik VcYockye there were prosecuted for carrying firearms in the same year (ibid., XII, p. 132), and several McJokies or Macjokkies were charged with being rebels or for resetting rebels in 1636 (ibid., 2. ser. V, p. 6).
