Macnia comarb of Buite, quievit 1037 (Chron. Scot. ). Maknee is recorded in 1594 (BBT., p. 285). Donald McNie and Gillemoire McNie in Balquhidder were fined for reset of Clan Gregor, 1613 (RPC., XIV, p. 638). The Dean of Lismore has M'onee; M'Knie 1594; M'Kne 1480 (Menteith and Breadalbane). = 1667 M'Ilnaey and M'Knae. In fifteenth-century documents, as ER. we have M'Knee.
