From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

MACPRIOR: 'son of the prior. ' Dougall Makchonochy V'Prior, servitor of Colin Campbell of Glenvrquhay, had a lease of three marks of Balleveolayne in 1576 (OPS., II, p. 166), and in 1587 he appears as Dougall M'Conoquhie V'apriour in Balliewewlane in Lismoir (BBT., p. 241). Mention is made in 1599 of the son of John M'Ewin VcDougall V'Aprioure (OPS., II. p. 115), and the widow of Ewin M'Coull VcDonchie V'Prior in Balleveolan was contracted in marriage in 1633 (Notes and Queries, July 18, 1931).
