'son of Robert, ' a Highland border name, Gaelic Mac Roibeirt. Angus M'Robert gave his bond of manrent to George, earl of Huntlie in 1543 (SCM., IV, p. 260). Donald M'Aye M'Robert held land at Castlehill, Inverness, in 1586 (Laing, 1111), and Donald Makrobert in Candroquhat witnessed a bond of manrent in the same year (BBT., p. 237). Molchallum M'Robert appears in Craig in 1606 (BBT., p. 257), John M'Robert was in possession of the oxganglands of Brigend Nigg, in 1659 (Laing, 2540), and another Johne McRobert in the parish of Balmaghie, and Andrew McCrobert in the parish of Tungland were charged with being disorderly persons in 1684 (RPC., 3. ser. IX, p. 572). McRypert is an old spelling.
