MAELDUN: For earlier Maelduin, 'fort chief. ' Maldunus or Maelduin, bishop of St. Andrews, granted the church of Merchinke (Markinch) to the Culdees of the island of Lochleven (RPSA., p. 116), died in 1055 (Tighemach). Maledonni mac meic Read witnessed the grant by Gartnait and Ete of Pet-meic-Cobroig to the church of Deer, c. 1131-32 (Bk. Deer, III, 7). In 1507 Maldone Farquharsone appears in Rainy of Easter Ross, and Muldone in Urray (Macbain I, p. 160).
