Thomas Madoure was present at perambulation of the marches of Kyrknes and Lcuchorin 1395 (RPSA., p. 3). James Madour was a charter witness in 1466 (Kelso, 531), and Robert Madour and Alan Madour were charter witnesses in Newbattle in 1464 and 1468 (Neubotle, p. 252,273). James Mador was prior of Lesmahagoo in 1467 (ibid., p. 263), and Patrick Mador, licenciate in theology, a witness in Haddington in 1458, appears in 1462 as Patrick Madowre, abbot of Newbotle (ibid., p. 246,250). Robert Mador was bailie of Sir Alan Lokarte of Lee in 1467 (ibid., p. 313). Robert Madour and Thomas Madour witnessed a charter to Neubotle Abbey in 1462 (ibid., p. 250), and William Madur or Mader appears as auditor in Lanark in 1488 and 1503 (Lanark, p. I, 12). The surname also occurs in Arbroath in 1485 as Maddyr (RAA., II, 261). John Madour was witness in Peebles in 1473 (Peebles CR. ), and John Mader in Balsando was a follower of Campbell of Lundy in 1541 (RSS., II, 3666). Sir Richard Mader, cleric and notary public in Ferne, 1545 (Laing, 495), is doubtless Sir Richard Maddir who was granted the chaplainry of St. Andrew of Golspie in 1556 (OPS., II, p. 650,651), and Bessie Mader is recorded in Brechin in 1577 (Brechin). John Maider was burgess of Irwing in 1642 (Inquis., 2629), Thomas Maydder is recorded in Hardenes in 1652 (Lauder). James Medder was sheriff officer of Roxburgh in 1666 (RRM..
