'son of Malcolm, ' q. v. This name is found early, as Symon Malcomesson of Berwickshire rendered homage for his lands in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 207). Rogy Malcolmsoun "apud Corthill," is in record in 1402 (CRA., p. 385), Robert Malcolmson was burgess of Stirling, 1437 (SCM., V, p. 260), Thom Malcolmsoun was tenant of Esterdrume in 1474 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 202), and Alexander Malcomson was tenant there in 1489 (ibid., p. 240). In a Latin document of 1467 the name is given in the Latin genitive form, John Malcolmi, burgess of Edinburgh (Neubotle, p. 314). Master Gilbert Makelchallum officiated as chaplain in the parish church of St. Martin in Ardskodinche in 1546 (OPS., II, p. 92, 94). As Master Gilbert Malcolm (Malcolmsoun, or Makolchallum) he appears as rector of Craginche (Craignish) in 1542, 1543, 1546, and 1561 (RMS. ). Malcomeson, Malcumson, Malcumsone.
