MALDUHH: Old Gaelic 'black prince. ' The share of Maldub (pett Malduib) was given to the Abbey of Deer by Malsnecte, the son of Lulog (Bk. Deer, II) The ancient name of the parish of Inveraray (in 1304) was Kylmalduff (OPS., II, p. 85). A Gaelic saint, Meildulph, whom the English called Mailduff, founded a hermitage at Malmesbury, and from him it was known as Maldulfesburh, now Malmesbury.
