A family of this name settled in Scotland about the middle of the twelfth century. John de Malherb and Adam de Malherb obtained the manor of Morham in East Lothian, and from it they assumed the surname of Morham, q. v. The Register of Newbattle Abbey contains several charters to the abbey by Johannes de Morham, Adam Malherb, lerd of Morham, and Thomas de Morham (Neubotle, 65-67, 75, 77-79).

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

A family of this name settled in Scotland about the middle of the twelfth century. John de Malherb and Adam de Malherb obtained the manor of Morham in East Lothian, and from it they assumed the surname of Morham, q. v. The Register of Newbattle Abbey contains several charters to the abbey by Johannes de Morham, Adam Malherb, lerd of Morham, and Thomas de Morham (Neubotle, 65-67, 75, 77-79). Hugh Malherb, another of the family, acquired the lands of Rossie in the Carse of Gowrie about the same time. He was succeeded by his son Hugh Malherb, who lived under William the Lion. This Hugh made a grant of two bovates of land in the territory of Rossyn (Rossie) to the monks of Arbroath which was confirmed by King William (RAA., I. p. 42, 43 William de Malherb, brother of the first Hugh, obtained a grant of lands also about the same time and granted in insubinfeudation the lands of Balenaus to his brother Ewyn Malherb for his service (ibid., I, p. 69). William was succeeded by his son Thomas who gave (c. 1205) to the monks of Arbroath a donation of two shillings yearly for ever, witnessed by his uncle Ewyn, his cousin Richard, and Hugh, son of Hugh Malherb (ibid., I, p. 68—69) The name probably long extinct.
