From Malleny in the parish of Currie, Midlothian, formerly an old barony. Alexander de Maleny was one of the jurors on an inquest made at St. Katherine's Chapel, Bavelay, in 1280 (Bain, IV, 1762). Donald Malynny was king's runner in 1488 (Trials, I, p. 5). William Malynnie was burgess freeman of Glasgow in 1575, Patrick Mailyinnie was admitted burgess freeman as married to daughter of a burgess, 1584 (Burgesses), and a later Patrick Malynnie became burgess freeman in 1629 (ibid).
