The Macgregors of Balhaldie are known as Macian Mhallich or Vallich, that is son of John with the bushy eyebrows (d. 1523) (Macgregor, I, p. 121), so named on account of his large shaggy eyebrows. John Malyoch was tenant of the lands of Parcyis, 1473 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 201). In 1589 caution was found for John Maloche in Blakrithven (RPC., IV, p. 350), and in 1613 Duncan McEan Malloche, John Mulloche McEan Graniche, officer in Urquhart, and Duncan McConeill VcEac Mallighe in Clune were fined for reset of members of Clan Gregor (RPC, XIV, p. 626,630). Helen Malloche, spouse of Robert Livingstoun merchant bergess of Edinbergh, 1628 (Inquis., 1406), and Andro Malloch was schoolmaster in Auchterdirran, 1648 (PRK., p. 318). From Niel Mac Ean Vallich, a son of the John who died in 1523, the poet Mallet was descended. John Wilkes in his The North Briton, no. 34, p. 201, refers sarcastically to "the great Mr. Mallet alias Mallock, that ingenious Scot." Maloch 1693, Maylloch 1702.
