MALMURE, Malmum: Gaelic Maol Muire. earlier Mael Muire, shaveling of (V. ) Mary. ' Malmere Thein (thane) de Chellin perambulated the bounds of Ballegallin, c. 1150 (May, 2). Chellin (now Kelly) is an old 'shire' in Fife. A serf named Malmur belonged to the Abbey of Scon (Scon, 37). Malmur mac Hercar and Ronald Macmalmur appear in Scon between 1165—1214 (Scon, 37). Malmore, parson of Taruas, witnessed a charter by Mathew Kynninmond, bishop of Aberdeen, c. 1180 (REA., I, p. 13); and Malmure, capellanus episcopi (de Strathera) was a witness c. 1198 (Inchaffray, p. 3). Malmure mac Gillemichel was one of the perambulators of the boundaries of Balfeth or Belphe in Angus, c. 1204—11 (RAA., I, p. 60). A dispensation was granted Molmure, son of Lagmann, knight, and Christina, daughter of Alexander called of Ergadia in 1290, who intermarried in ignorance that they were connected in the fourth degree of affinity (Pop. Lett., I. p. 518). Malmor Hoge is included in an inhibition by the bishop of Glasgow against the earl of Levenax and others in 1294 (RMP., p. 203). A son of John Mac Molmari was one of the hostages given by John of Lora to John of Isla, c. 1350 (Clan Donald, I, p. 113). Christy Makmullmory had a royal remission for slaughter committed by him in Ross, 1494-5 (Rose, p. 104; OPS., II, p. 572). Malmure (accus. ) occurs as a woman's name in a runic inscription at Kirk Michael, Isle of Man. The Latin correlative is Marianus, and in Ireland the name is Englished Myles. M'Wlmoir 1543.
