In his traditional healing profession, he was prominent for not being defeated by any kind of disease, and people from many places new him for this such that he became famous among almost all of the Ndau people in both Mozambique and Zimbabwe. People later nicknamed him Mauraye to mean 'the killer (of all diseases)'. This nickname later became famous and was generally adopted as his name instead of nickname. After his death, the name Mauraye became a sub-clan of the generations that came after him. Even today, some people of the Moyana clan in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, use Mauraye as a variant surname to Moyana.
