In Hungarian, Magyar means 'Hungary'; and -ich means 'son of'. My father was Daniel Mađarevic' born in Gorice, Bosnia on 1-30-1937. His father was Juro (George) Mađarevic', born in Rajeveselo, Croatia, in about 1893, just across the river from Gorice, Bosnia. They immigrated to United States in October 1949 where at Ellis Island, the name was "Americanized" to "Magjarevich". My father told me of the meaning of our name which he stated was, 'son of Hungary'. We do not know, but we speculate that somewhere back in history we have ancestors that were Hungarian.
