MACALEXANDER: 'son of Alexander,' which see. Raynald Mac Alyschandir had a gift of the lands of Upper Kinmylies from Alasdair Carrach in 1398 (REM, p. 211). Tarliich Makalexander had a grant for life of the stewardry of the lands of Kyntyr in 1481 (RMS, II.). Macalexander had become a patronymic in Carrick by the end of the fifteenth century. John Alexandri, laird of Dalcopene, Ayrshire, is in record c. 1370—80 (Laing, 64). John Alexandersoun and Alexander M'Alexander 'his bruthir' took part in the second hership of Petty in 1513 (Rose, p. 190). John Makalexander was deacon of craft of Stirling in 1555 (SBR, p. 278), and George M'Alexander de Corsclayis was retoured heir of Thomas M'Alexander de Corsclayis, his father, in 1603 (Retours, Ayr, 64).
