MACALOWNE: Celestine Mac Alowne received a grant of Balemakinrain (now Ballikinrain) in the earldom of Lennox from his kinsman Donald, earl of Lennox, c. 1333—64 (Strathendrick, p. 191). John Macalowne on inquest at Nam, 1431 (Rose, p. 127). This was an old name of the Napiers in Strathendrick, but does not appear to have been hereditary (Strathendrick, p. 194).
