MACABHRIUIN, Macbrioun: 'son of Brion.' Patrick M'Abhriuin is one of the witnesses in the unique Gaelic charter of 1408 (Bit. Islay, p. 17). This represents Mac ui Bhriuin, which may be for older Moccu Briuin. In the time of S. Columba there was a youth in Iona, Columbanus nepos Briuini, and Molus nepos Briuini was a brother of the Community (Adamnan, II, 16, 29). In the Tain Bo Fraich Dunolly is named Dun Ollaich maic Briuin, 'the fort of Ollach son of Brion' (lCP., IV, p. 47). John McBryon or McBryoun was tenant of Kilkyne, Tiree, 1541, and Fynnane McBryon or McBryoun was tenant of Ballemanoch, Tiree, in the same year (ER., XVII, p. 614,641). Andrew McBrwin was burgess of Dumfries, 1557 (Edgar, p. 242—243). In 1618 the clanbreghoun gave their band to the laird of Calder by Patrick Breghoun in Lagan, Islay, for himself, his son, for Gillecreist Mc breghoun, Gormyk Mc breghoun and others (Cawdor, p. 242). Donald M'Vrion and Iain M'Vrion were among those murdered at Dunaverty, 1647 (HP., II, 257). Four persons named M'Brion are in record, 1675—95 (Argyll). Niall M'Abrioune was servitor to the laird of Lochness, 1658, and Donald Mc abrionne was tenant of Leckabowie, 1669 (HP., IV, p. 222). Ard: Mclvrion or Mc vrian, fencibie-man in Nether Lorn, 1692 (Commons, p. 34, 35). Eouine M'Brun in Lochibuy, 1702, may have been a relative of Malcolm M'Bryan recorded there in 1693 (Argyll Inv.), and Duncan M'Urion or Vrion was tenant of Ardlussa, Jura, 1729 (Isles).
