MACATH: Kenneth mac aht (ht here, as often, written for th), an enemy of the king of Scotland, 1215, "was probably a relative, possibly a son of Malcolm Macheth (+1168)" (ES., II, p. 404). Duncan M'Ath had a grant of two quarters of land together with the office of serjeandrie from King Robert I (RMS.). In 1232 the lands of Dolays Mychel were granted in excambion to Duncanus filius Gillemychel M'ath (REM., p. 87—88). The patronymic Macheth seems to have become a family name. See Heth and Macheth.
