From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

MACCOMBICH, Macchombich: Gaelic MacThomaidh, 'son of Tommie' (diminutive of Thomas). A common name in Breadalbane two hundred years ago (SN&Q III, p. 172), and still found in Argyllshire. Somerled MacCombich c. 1442 (TGSI., XXII, p. 61). Archibald M'Combich in Coull in Appin, 1690 (Argyll inf.). John Bwy McComiche in the barony of Glenlyoun was fined for reset of outlawed Macgregors, 1613 (RPC., XIV p. 633). Malcolm M'Chomich in Wuroch, parish of Inshall, 1685 (Argyll), and Duncan M'Comick in Euill of Duror, 1686 (ibid.). Duncan Dow M'Chombeich of Achosrigan was in the Rebellion of 1745, and five Maccombichs in Stewart of Appin's regiment in the '45 were killed and three wounded (Coll., p. 199).
