MACCORKILL, Maccorkle: Gaelic MacThorcuill, 'son of Thorcull,' from a shortened form of Thorketill (see Maccorquodale). Jannet M'Korkyll qwlk wes slaine' in 1561 is again referred to as Jannet Nyk Kerkyll and Jannet M'Corker (Dallas, p. 90). Isaack McCorquell in Drumnacarrie was fined for resetting outlawed Macgregors, 1613 (RPC., XIV p. 632). Lachlan McOrkill in Cames, Mull, was put to the horn, 1629 (RPC., 2. ser. III, p. 45). M'Thurkill and M'Kurkull occur in 1661 and 1663 (Argyll; Caithness).
