From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
MACCORQUODALE, Maccorkindale: Gaelic MacCorcaiail. From the ON. personal name Thorketill, "Thor's kettle.' The Gaelic is also given as MacC(h)orcodail and MacThorcadail. But little is known of the early history of the clan, and the account in Buchanan (who spells the name M'Orquodale) is untrustworthy. Ewen Mactorquedil or Ewgyne M'Corquheddell was summoned to appear before the sheriff in Perth in 1430, and to bring his charters and evidents with him (HP., II, p. 162; Invent. Scrymgeour family docs., 20). In 1434 there is record of a charter to Ewen, son of Ewen Makcomuydill, lord of Maintelan (properly Phantelan) (OPS., II, p. 96,124). In 1495 Ewen Mikcorcadill granted his lands of Edderlin, etc., to Archibald, earl of Argyll, in exchange for other lands (RMS., II, 2352), and in 1509 his son, Ewne Maccorquodill was retoured heir of his father in lands in Argyll (OPS., II, p. 87). Effric neyn Corgitill is authoress of a poem in the Book of the Dean of Lismore, and John Macrocadill (I) or Makcrocadill was minister of Strathfillan, 1569-85 (Scott, Fasti, III, p. 826; RMR.). Lauchlane McQuorquordill, brother to Duncan McQuorquordill of Phantellane, and Johnne Dow McQuorquordill or McQuorquhordell were in 1612 called "notorious thieves and assisters of Clan Gregour" (RPC., IX. p. 510). John M'Orquidill in Port of Lochtay was a Glenorchy vassal in 1638 (BBT., p. 400). The patronymic is still fairly common in Kintyre. The shortened forms Maccorkill, which see, and Maccorkle are also in current use. The Maccorquodales are classed as a sept of Macleod but there is no evidence of any relationship between them.
