MACCORRAN: Forsith McCorane (or McCoren or M'Quarrane) was tenant of Sessintuly, 1480 (ER., IX, p. 566,599). As Forsith Mcquharrane he appears as tenant there in 1502 along with Thomas McQuhorrane (ibid., XII, p. 632). A purchase of cloth was made for Katheryne Makcoran, 'lavendar in the court,' 1509 (ALHT., IV, p. 175). Patrick McCorane, clerk of St. Andrews diocese, notary at Ellanrie, 1609 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 136), may be Patrick M'Coran, notary, 1617 (Sasines, II, 3). Janet M'Corrane in Vnschenoche, parish of Port, 1661 (Dunblane), and Dugald M'Corran in Fernoch, parish of Kilmelford, 1698 (Argyll Inc.). On the lands of Inchanoch 'there is still to be seen a mound, which the people of the country know as the grave of the McCorrans' (Campbell, Supplement, p. 80). The name may be from MacOdhrain or fuller MacGilleOdhrain, 'son of the gillie of (S.) Odhran.' See also Macquorn.
