MACREDIE: (Ayrshire), Macreadie (Galloway), Macready, Maccredie. The Macredies of Peirceton, Ayrshire, ere originally from Ireland (in 1720) says Robertson (Ayr Fam., II, p. 70). The first of the family connected with Peirceton was Andrew Macredie, provost of Stranrawer, and originally from Ireland, who perchased the estate from Sir Robert Barclay, last of the family of Peirceton, in 1720 (ibid. ). Woulfe explains the name as MacRiada, 'son of Riada.'
