MACFARQUHAR: 'son of Farquhar, ' q. v., from the unaspirated form of the name. Fergus MacFerchar held lands near Glasgow in the reign of Malcolm IV (Neubotle, p. xxxvi). Macbeth Macferkar witnessed the grant of the church of Inuerhouen, c. 1187-1203 (REM., p. 38), Fynlaw Makferchar and Donald Makferchar held part of Murthly in Atholl, 1466 (Cupar-Angtis, I, p. 145,153), and Patrick M'Arquhar held the mill of Wester Boquhopill, Menteith, 1534 (RMS., III, 1548). John McFerquhar was concerned in the slaughter of John McAlester, 1538 (RSS., II, 2550), and Finlay M'Farquhersoun, a follower of Donald Gorme of Sleat, had remission in 1541 for his part in laying waste Trouterness in Skye and Kenlochew in Ross (ibid., 3943). John McFarcor was 'cuik to the joung laird of Balnagown' 1590 (Trials, I, p. 196), and Donald McFerquhair in Tullichgrein and Allaster McFarquher there were denounced rebels, 1619 (RPC., XI, p. 574). Caution was found for John Mc Willi am VcPherquhair in Cullclachie, 1627 (RPC., 2. ser. II, p. 5). Makferquhair 1555, McPharquhar 1671. See also Macerchar.
