MACGUFFIE, Macguffie: Col. John M'Guffie of Cubbicks in the Stewartry was killed at Fiodden, 1513. The foundation stone of the monument to the Wigtown Martyrs was laid by Provost M'Guffie of Wigtown. John M'Kuffie was a councillor in Kirkcudbright, 1570. James M'Cuffie of the Crockes of Sonnik. 1688 (Kirkcudbright). William Holmes McGuffey (1800—1873), American Presbyterian clergyman and compiler of McGuffey's 'Readers,' was son of Alexander McGuffey, born in Scotland. A weakened form of Macguffog.
