John M'Kuffie was a councillor in Kirkcudbright, 1570. James M'Cuffie of the Crockes of Sonnik. 1688 (Kirkcudbright). William Holmes McGuffey (1800—1873), American Presbyterian clergyman and compiler of McGuffey's 'Readers,' was son of Alexander McGuffey, born in Scotland. A weakened form of Macguffog.
