John McGowgane and Duncan McGowgane were tenants of Kilcobenach, Kintyre, in 1541 (ER., XVII, p. 630). Gilcallmn M'Gowgane was occupier of Kilcobenache, South Kintyre, 1650 (HP., III, p. 82). Catharine M'Gugane in Clachiudunan, parish of Kilcalmonell, 1684 (Argyll), and Angus M'Gugan in Auchnacoirle, parish of Killean, 1693 (Argyll Inv.). Another current form is Macguckin.
