Thomas Makgilvane was a tenant under Douglas in the barony of Buittle, 1376 (RHM., I, p. lix). John Mcilmeyne was a witness in Dumfries, 1477 (Edgar, p. 227). Gilbert Makilmeyn de Grummat, 1503 (RSS., I, 947). Allan McYlveine de Grumet who appears as bailie of the Abbey of Crossraguel in 1523 (Crossraguel, I, p. 71) is Alan Makilwene, juror on assize in the bailliary of Carrick, 1532 (RMS., III, 1196). Alane Maldlvane follower of the earl of Cassilis, was respited for murder, 1526 (RSS., I, 3386). Gilbert Macywene and Allan Macywene of Grumett are in record, 1546 (ALHT., VIII, p. 202), and Patrick M'llvayne was heir of Gilbert M'llvayne of Grummet who was killed in battle of Fawsyde, 1547 (Retours, Ayr, 1). Mr Rollo Makylmenaeus who translated the Logike of Peter Ramus, published in London, 1574, may have been Ronald Macllmeine who appears as a student at St. Andrews University in 1566 as Rolandus M'Kilwein, in 1569 as Renaldus Makilmain, and as Rollandus Machilmane in 1570 (ERUS.). He was probably a member of the family Macilvain of Grumet or Grummet in Carrick. John M'Kilvane and John M'Kilven were two of M'Nachtane's soldiers shipped at Lochkerran, 1627 (Archaeologia Scotica, III, p. 254). Gilbert M'llwyand had sasine of two merklands of Multouns, Galloway, 1674 (M'Kerlie, I, p. 171). Margaret M'llmeane appears at Carsbratt in 1628 (Dumfries), and Uexandsr Milmine in Sautcroft, 1790 (Wigtown). Makilvene, M'Gilweane, McIlveane, Makilwyane, Mekilwaine; in 1684 the name is spelled Mclllvain, McElvain, McIllveyan, Mcllweian, Mcllweine, Mcllwain, McKelvain, McKilweyan, McKilwyan (Parish).
