MACILWHAM, Macilwhom, Macilwhan, Macilquham: A sept of Lamont. 'Son of the servant of (S. ) Thomas. ' Thomas Makilquhone and Donald Makilquhone witnessed sasine in favor of Thomas Ruchquhanan of Moss, 1505 (George Buchanan quatercentenary studies, 1906, p. 530). Ago McGillequhome appears in Strathdee in 1527 (Grant, III, p. 70). Marion M'llquhan received a legacy, 1530 (CAC., I, p. 94). Gilcrist McIlhame or Mcllhane was tenant of Galtak in Islay, 1541 (ER., XVII, p. 617,637). James Gilqwham in Dunfermline, 1574 (Dunfermline). Duncan Mcilquhome in Straquhar, a sasine witness in 1598 (HP., IV, p. 43). Donald Dow McGillewhome at the Kirk of Drymmen was fined for aiding Clan Gregor, 1613 (RPC., XIV, p. 645). Macilquham also occurs in the barony of Mugdock in the eighteenth century and in Finnick in 1780 as M'Ilquham. Ruchanan includes Macllwhoms as a sept of Lamond, and the name has been Scotticized as Meikleham, Meiklam, and Meiklem. McGilliquhome 1607. Johnston (Macs, p. 31) suggests for meaning "Macghill' chama, 'son of the bold one's servant'" (ll).
