MACISAAC: Gaelic Mac Isaac or Mac Iosaig, 'son of Isaac,' which see. Gillanders Macysac witnessed a Beauly charter of 1231 (Beauly, p. 33). John mac ysaac who witnessed a charter by Donald, earl of Lennox in or before 1364 (HP., IV, p. 16) may be John Makysaac who witnessed a charter by Duncan, earl of Lennox, 1395 (Levenax, p. 79). Esaig M'Thome V'Esaig witnessed sasine of lands of Craginche to Archibald, earl of Argyll, 1510 (OPS., II, p. 97). Murdoch Mclsack to be transported to New England, 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. XI, p. 94). Ann Maciosaig in Ceann-langavat, South Uist, was one of the late Dr. Carmichael's reciters (Carm. Gadel., II, p. 374). In Nfackay's Book of Mackay (p, 5n) the wild suggestion is made that Macisaac "may be a corrupt form of Mackay." Mc Isaick 1745, M'lsak 1676, Makesaig 1592, M'lseik and M'Kiseck 1731.
