MACKESSOCK, Mackessack, Mackissack, Mackissock, Mackissek: From Gaelic Mac Iosaig, 'son of Isaac,' which see. In 1476 the lands of Ardere in the barony of Clastray were resigned by Mariot, daughter of Molmoria M'Kesek (RMS., II), and Donald Makessaig recorded at Kilmun, 1496, is probably the Donald McEsayg of 1511 (Poltalloch Writs, p. 183). John M'Intheir was convicted in 1623 for letting M'Keissik's bairnis the for hunger in Breadalbane (BRT., p. 379 —there was probably a famine). Marion MacKissock was resident in the parish of Boyne, 1684 (RPC., 3. ser. IX, p. 567), Elspet M'Kissick in Relliclone, parish of Madertie, 16S8 (Dunkeld), and Duncan M'Kissoch or M'Kessogg was a Jacobite prisoner of the '45 (Prisoners, III). Cadrain MacCisaig was resident in South Uist, 1871. There is a sept of Mackissocks on the coast of the Moray Firth who probably came there with Colin, earl of Argyll, who married the daugh ter of the Regent Moray. Makesaig 1592.
