MACPAKE: A rare name from Irish Mac Peice, 'son of Peic (a variant of the Old English personal name Pic). Lance-corporal Douglas MacPake oi Kinlochleven died of wounds, 1940. The name MacPike, now apparently unkown in Scotland and Ireland, may be a variant. James M'Pike, supposed to have been born in Edinburgh, c. 1750, migrated to Baltimore, U. S., about 1772, and a few M'Pikes are mentioned in the third series of Pennsylvania Archives. MacPike occurs in a list of about 300 Galloway 'Macs' (SN&Q., 2. ser. VIII, p. 27). John McPake of Edinbergh was killed in North Africa in April, 1943.
