Donald Makqueil was tenant of Nethir-Mewane in the lordship of Apnadull, 1500 (RMS., II, 2566). A child of William M'Quell was buried in Greyfriars, Edinburgh, 1662 (Greyfriars Burying-ground reg. of interments, 1658-1700, p. 424). There seems to have been a family of this name in Edinburgh in the seventeenth century whose name appears in record as M'Qweill 1610, M'Quell, M'Qwhal, and Makquall.
