MACCUNE, Maccunn: Gaelic MacEoghain, son of Ewen ' which see, an old surname in Galloway. Gilcrist McKwnne granted a charter to Roland Kenedy c. 1370-80 (Laing, 64). Donald Makcvne had a royal remission for slaughter committed by him, 1497 (Rose, p. 164), and John Makcune in Auchincheand, Galloway, had a precept of remission, 1535 (RSS., II, 1862). Another John Makcune was occupier of the 20s. land of Balleballoch, Carrick, 1538 (RMS., III, 1804), and John M'Cune or M'Cunn appears in Craignesten, 1627 (Dumfries).
