MACVEAN: Gaelic Mac Bheathain. John M'Wayein witnessed a sasine in favor of Thomas Stewart of Grantully, 1494 (Grandtully, I, p. 38). William McWeane was tenant in the Four Glakkis, Kynnarde, 1539 (ER., XVII, p. 670). The name is common in BBT.: Sorle M'Conill M'Allane M'Baine for whom Glenorchy went cautioner at Balloch, 1564; Patrick Roy M'Veane, cattle fanner in Glenlochy, 1594, may be Patrick Roy M'Bean in Boithworny in same year; John and Finlay M'Vaine in Balloch, 1626; and John and Patrick M'Vaine, Inchadden, 1638.
