From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

MECPHIN: From the old lands of Mecphin near Methven, Perthshire. Robert de Meggefen granted two tofts and four acres in Dolpatrick (otherwise Kenandheni) between 1226 and 1234 (Inchaffray, p. 48-49). Roger Mekfen witnessed the charter of Abercairny by Earl Malise of Strathern to John of Moravia (LIM., App , XLII). Roger de Mekfin, miles, witnessed the charter by Robert the Steward to Thomas Simple of the land of Cragrossy with pertinents in Stratherne, c. 1360 (REG., p. 275), and as Roger de Mekfen, dominus de eodem, he granted the lands of Cambo, c. 1370, to the Abbey of Inchaffray (Inchaffray, p. 130). Robert de Mekven, dominus eiusdem, granted his brewland with pasture for cows, sheep, and horses, to the same abbey in 144344 (ibid., p. 138). This Robert appears to have been the last of his family as in 1450 the lands of the Mekvens had nassed to the Toschachs of Monzievaird, who possessed them for two centuries after that date (ibid., p. lxxxv).
