A family of this name held lands from the abbots of Cupar from the middle of the fifteenth century. William Mek had a tack of part, of Cowbyr in 1457, Will Meyk was tenant of Coupergrgange in 1468, and William Meyk was tenant of Balmyl in 1485 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 132,142, 237). Robert Meik was made burgess of Perth, 1545 (Mill, Plays, p. 265), John Meyk was a Rlackfriar of Perth in 1549, and Susanna Meik is recorded in Dunfermline in 1584 (Dunfermline). John Meik in Blairmuckhill appears in 1676 (Retours, Linlithgow, 242), Margrat Meike was resident in the parish of Rorgue in 1684 (RPC., 3. ser. IX, p. 567), and John Meik in Grange of Aberbothrie, 1695, and five more ere recorded in the Commissariot Record of Dunkeld. Meik of Ledcassie (now Cersie) in Perthshire is reckoned an old family.
