In the time of William the Lion, Simon de Meigle gifted the advowson of the kirk and adjoining chapel to the prior and canons of St. Andrews (Lyon, St. Andrews, II, p. 305). Michael de Mygill witnessed the gift by Eufemie, lady of Duffus, to the bishop of Moray in 1263 (REM., p. 278), and as de Migell he bestowed the marsh of Migell on the Abbey of Cupar (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 343-344). In 1305 the king of England directed that an inquiry be made into the dealings of Sir Michael de Miggel with Sir William Wallace, when evidence was produced to show the latter's harsh treatment of him when trying to escape (ibid., II, p. 456). John de Migghil, son of William de Migghil, had a confirmation charter of the barony of Mygghil and pertinents in the sheriffdom of Perth in 1378 (RMS., I, 690,778), and in 1381 he resigned the third part of Kintulach (Cambus., 179). William de Megill resigned the barony to David, first earl of Crawford during the reign of Robert III (RMS., I, App. II, 1829). Robert Miggle was under miller at the miln of Birney in 1757 (Moray).
