The seal of the latter bears a cross cantoned with 5 stars, and S' Michael le Messag (Bain, II, p. 205,210, 549). Rauf le Messager of the county of Berewyk also rendered homage in the same year (ibid., p. 210), and Ivo le Messager of the county of Dumfries (ibid., p. 203). Robert Messynger of Orkenay in Scotland received a safe coduct to travel in England in 1405 (Bain, IV, 679), and Alan Messengere, a native of Scotland, was owner of a tenement in Smythefeld, London, in 1482 (ibid., IV, 1485).
