Carew says the church is called Menaguisy from its two tutelar saints Meny and Isey. In Wolsey's Inquisition (1521) the church is called St. Menage-zey. Pryce gives Mene-guissey, Melin-gissy (a village); and Meva-gizey, Mene-guissy, Mellin-guissey (a parish); both of which he renders the mill wood,
