What I know is in Rayalaseema, especially in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, in every caste, there is two sects, one Namadarulu and two Modikallu. People in the caste either belong to sect of Namadarulu or Modikallu. The customs, especially in matters of death ceremonies differs between these two sects in the caste. I believe that these sects are offspring of Veers Saiva and Vashnava movements of 9th and 10th centuries, influencing each caste in the society. Nowadays, these differences are nominal and have no bearing.
