Michael de Muncur, miles, witnessed a charter by Ysabella de Brus, c. 1237-48 (LAC., 40). Andrew de Muncurr, retainer of James the Steward, who had his lands restored to him in 1296 (Bain, II, 853), may be the Andrew de Monctour who rendered homage in the same year at Berwick-on-Tweed (ibid., p. 196). Robert de Muntcurt (Moncur) was one of the Scottish prisoners taken in Dunbar Castle in 1296 (ibid., 873), Mariota de Moncur was domina de Rossy in 1302 (SCM., II, p. 316), the lands of Adam de Muncurre in Fife are mentioned in 1365 (RMS., I, 218), and Michael de Munkure held land in Angus in 1398 (Strathmore, p. 182). James of Mankorre had a safe conduct into England in 1424 (Bain, IV, 963), William Moncure, chaplain, "a native of Scotland," had license to remain there in 1465 (ibid., 1359), David Monquer was a frater of Cupar, 1500 (REB., I, 220), and Andrew Moncur of that Ilk gave his bond of manrent to the earl of Errol in 1541 (SCM., II, p. 268). The family of Muncur of Dundee "for several generations enjoyed a high reputation as armourers" (ALHT., I, p. clxxx). and in the Exchequer Rolls between the years 1444 and 1473 are many references to arms made by them, and an annual fee of xx lib. was paid to them as armour makers to the Court.
