Mr. Louis Geldmacher, a German Hessen soldier that fought for the English in the American revolutionary war and was captured at the battle of Trenton in New Jersey in 1776, decided to stay in America after the war was over. He resided in Virginia and changed his last name from Geldmacher (German for 'moneymaker') to Moneymaker to sound more American. Anyone with the last name Moneymaker in the US can most likely trace their family line to him.
